Article: Why the UAE is Becoming a Top Destination for Retirees

Here’s why: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has traditionally been seen as a hub for business and tourism, but in recent years, it has been making significant strides to position itself as an attractive destination for retirees. With world-class infrastructure, a high standard of living, and forward-thinking policies, the UAE is enabling an environment where older adults are active and thriving members of their communities. 

Visas for the long term: A Game-Changer

One of the most significant steps taken by the UAE government is the introduction of the Retirement Visa. This initiative allows eligible retirees aged 55 and above to secure a five-year renewable visa, provided they meet financial criteria such as property ownership, savings, or stable income. This visa gives retirees the flexibility to settle in the UAE and enjoy its many benefits.

The Golden Visa also allows families to extend the visa to their parents to be able to come to Dubai frequently and for extended periods of time. 

Forwarding Thinking Policies


Globally, by 2030 there will be more people over 60 than under 10 years for the first time. We are seeing similar trends here in the UAE where the senior population (60+) is expected to grow significantly. The region as a whole (MENA) will see a fivefold or greater increase in its senior population, with the UAE being a key part of this shift​. 


In fact, the newly released 'Global Risks Report 2025' by the World Economic Forum highlights - for the first time - the aging demographic and its unprecedented impact on global economies as people live longer than prior generations.
